You doN’t have to be ‘fit’ to come to yoga…
… but it will make you fitter. Yoga is about getting in touch with your body and mind through movement, breath work and reflection. It is much more than the pictures of gymnasts you see on the internet! It will seep into your every day life, helping you to improve the well-being of your body and your mind.
how I fell in love with yoga
I truly fell in love with yoga while living on Grand Cayman where there is a wonderful studio called Bliss filled with inspirational yogis from all walks of life and styles. I could go to Power Yoga in the morning, Yin in the evening, study philosophy at the weekend, Hot yoga at lunch time to name a few. I delved headfirst into this amazing place and have some of my happiest memories there, trying to do headstands and arm balances in a room full of beautiful people!
My training
I am a 200h Yoga Alliance trained vinyasa teacher. I trained over 12 months with Keren Cooksey at Falmouth Yoga Space in Cornwall. There was an in-depth monthly module of Anatomy and Physiology with Amanda Brown too. I completed my Hatha Yoga course with the British School of Yoga and am looking forward to training in Baptiste Power and Kundalini in the future. In the summer of 2019 I studied a 30h Yin Yoga course with Eimear Beardmore, deepening my knowledge of fascia and the meridians allowing me to deepen my practice and teaching style.
my classes
I incorporate a variety of styles in my classes but I am most well-known for making yoga accessible to all because of my attention to detail and knowledge of anatomy and physiology. I study yoga philosophy and weave it into classes, along with breath work (pranayama) and sometimes mantra. Naturally, every class is based on our intention or ‘sankalpa’ to do better for ourselves and others. It’s all about training our minds on the mat, to take into our life experience off the mat. Yoga has so many health benefits: it is excellent for sleep, weight loss and strength. It lowers your blood pressure, helps your joints and I truly believe it makes you happier too!
